SunShine Gāyatrī

Our song "SunShine Gāyatrī" is inspired by and includes the ancient Sāvitrī Gāyatrī Mantra (or mantra to the Sun) and asks us to contemplate on the role of the Sun in all we do and all we are. For you see, we and almost all lifeforms that we know of exist entirely as various forms of solar energy or simply; Sunshine - "Nothing but Sunshine" and we are all connected to and unified with all beings through and by this celestial energy.    

The Sāvitrī  (or Vedic) Gāyatrī  is originally found in the oldest part of the Ṛg Veda3.62.10, c. 1200 BCE or older and has been chanted daily since that time and by now that is many billions of recitations!   

The Vedas teach that the Sāvitrī Gāyatrī is the one mantra common to all! To chant the Gāyatrī Mantra purifies (or aligns with essence nature) the chanter and to listen purifies the listener. The mantra opens up our heart, and when our minds and our hearts are aligned we open ourselves to new possibilities.  

 [ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः] तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं, भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि, धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ।                        

 [OM̐ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ]                            

tat savitur varēṇyaṁ                                                                            

bhargo devasya dhīmahi                        

dhiyo yo naf pracodayāt |  

"Om. Earth. Atmosphere. Heaven.  May we focus our awareness on the alluring radiance of the rising and setting sun, the Vivifier; may He inspire our thoughts and meditations." [Translation by Christopher Wallis]  

The sung "translation" of the Sāvitrī Gāyatrī (begins at 2:55) is Cozmic Water's attempt at creating a sung/chanted Gāyatrī-meter rendition inspired by a translation from my teacher, friend, and Sanskrit-scholar Christopher Wallis included above.
